A bit of Java Cabana History

Java Cabana is one of Memphis' oldest and most celebrated coffeehouses. The cafe was opened in 1992 by Tommy Foster.

Thanks to Foster's love for the King, the early years of the Java was all Elvis. In the backroom of the shop, dubbed Viva! Memphis Wedding Chapel, many wedding ceremonies were presided over by Foster accompanied by an Elvis impersonator and musical accompaniment.

In the Java's first three years, Mary Burns, worked behind the counter and ran the evening poetry readings. In 1998 she bought it.

Serving Cooper-Young and Memphis since 1992.

"Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is." - Yoda
